Who We Want

We want leaders who are not only role models in our diverse community, but who are focused on ensuring high academic achievement. Saint Paul Public Schools are at an important stage, poised to make greater strides towards academic success. In a district seeking to offer “a world of opportunities” to its students, you can become the teacher that will unlock these chances for your students, setting them on the path to success. As a Teaching Fellow, you will work to close the achievement gap; 2/3 of our district’s African American students’ reading scores fall below the national average, while 90% of white students’ scores surpass it. We want people with a drive to change these statistics.

We are looking for candidates who are interested in teaching in subject areas where high-quality instruction and commitment are needed the most. Teaching Fellows will teach math, science, bilingual elementary education or special education.

We want people with little or no teaching experience but who are driven to succeed. We want individuals looking for socially meaningful work and people who understand that a teacher’s strengths and skills can change numerous lives. There is no one profile for an ideal Teaching Fellows candidate; Fellows can span a wide range of backgrounds, bringing a diverse set of talents and skills to the program. This program is specifically designed for driven college graduates who may not have a degree in education, and professionals from other fields seeking an alternate route into a career in the classroom. Strong candidates are those who are committed to having a positive effect on student achievement, who display excellence through their previous endeavors, and who are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to reach and influence students – especially those in under-served areas – on a daily basis. Review the Eligibility section of this website for more details on the requirements to apply.

We want people fresh out of college with track records of success as students, who seek to close the achievement gap. Maybe you have always wanted to become a teacher, but did not major in education. Maybe you have been a leader on campus and in your community, and you now seek a new way to continue to drive change. You may have a major in mathematics or physics, and want to share your deep knowledge in a subject area where high-quality teachers are needed the most. Applying to Saint Paul Teaching Fellows is your chance to join a highly-selective program comprised of talented individuals from across the country, like you, who are making the choice to give back, to lead, and to learn by becoming public school teachers. Apply today.

We want professionals who have excelled in their careers, who are ready to make a difference in our public schools. As a Fellow, you will use your life experiences to your advantage. The most successful teachers are those who leverage their diverse knowledge, experiences, and achievements into the classroom to positively affect the lives of their students. Whether your background is in social work, engineering, corporate management, healthcare, the arts, or raising a family, this is a chance to use your skills to make a difference in the classroom. The Teaching Fellows program provides you with a community of peers – dedicated individuals who, like you, want to make a difference in this community by changing the lives of children. Apply today.
